Tours, Prices & Booking 2026
Flying over the Bora Bora lagoon in a microlight is a radically different experience from a helicopter. No windows, no enclosed cabin — you're in the open air, a few hundred metres above the turquoise water, with Mt. Otemanu right in front of you. It's immersive, sensory and breathtakingly beautiful.
In French Polynesia, one operator offers microlight flights: Tahiti Air Lagon. Five islands on the programme — Bora Bora, Taha'a, Raiatea, Huahine and Maupiti — with circuits from 20 to 90 minutes. Here is everything you need to know to choose the right flight and book.

Tupai from the sky — the heart-shaped island, visible only from the air. The most moving moment of the Bora Bora microlight flight.
Microlight flying is one of the best value ways to see French Polynesia from the air. Accessible from age 10, less expensive than a helicopter or tandem skydive, it's a family-friendly activity that delivers unforgettable panoramas. The most iconic flight is Bora Bora + Tupai (45 min, 268€) — Bora Bora has the most beautiful lagoon in the selection, and the heart-shaped island of Tupai, just 5 minutes away by air, is a moment apart. The best value for money is Taha'a (35 min, 184€) — exceptional lagoon, beautiful motus, Bora Bora visible on the horizon, and far fewer people than Bora. If you're after total authenticity, Huahine and Maupiti are the most preserved islands in the selection — you'll fly over wild landscapes with no tourist infrastructure in sight, and you'll likely have the sky to yourself. Every lagoon is different. None will disappoint.
🥇 Microlight Flight over Bora Bora — Lagoon & Tupai the Heart Island
This is the most requested flight — and the most spectacular. From Bora Bora airport, you board a two-seat multiaxis microlight to fly over one of the world's most beautiful lagoons. From the air, the gradient of blues across the lagoon, the overwater bungalows lined up on the motus, and Mt. Otemanu towering at 727 metres — it's a view you'll find nowhere else.
The flagship circuit in Bora Bora is the Lagoon Heart (270€, 45 min): full Bora Bora circuit then a pass over Tupai, the heart-shaped island. Visible only from the air, Tupai is one of the most moving moments of the flight — an island perfectly drawn by nature, set in the middle of the Pacific.
Bora Bora airport is on a separate motu from the main island. To reach Tahiti Air Lagon, you need to take the Air Tahiti boat shuttle. The operator shares the schedule at the time of booking — if your microlight flight coincides with your arrival or departure from the island, you're already on site and the transfer is included in your Air Tahiti ticket.

"We did this flight as a couple, a memory we'll never forget. Special mention for the sensation of flying in the open air — incomparable. A must-do with your eyes wide open!"
"First time in a microlight, and what a revelation! Flying over Tupai is a highlight of the trip, very moving. Thank you to the pilot for his kindness and professionalism."

🥈 Microlight Flight over Taha'a — Motus and Lagoon from Raiatea
Taha'a is our top pick for best value for money. 35 minutes of flight, 184€, and an exceptional lagoon with Bora Bora visible on the horizon. The vanilla island is one of the most beautiful in French Polynesia — and one of the least known. Its motus bordering the north coast, its patchwork vanilla plantations and its lagoon shared with Raiatea form a panorama of rare beauty. The microlight flight departs from Raiatea airport and flies over Taha'a's motus for 35 minutes, with Bora Bora emerging on the horizon as a bonus.
What makes the Taha'a microlight flight unique is the contrast between the pearl farms visible under the crystal-clear lagoon surface, the coral masses and the shades of blue that make French Polynesia so unforgettable. The pilot comments on the landscapes throughout the flight — the vanilla plantations, the motus, the island's history — with a passion that genuinely enriches the experience. It's a confidential flight, rarely chosen by tourists, which gives it a pleasantly exclusive feel.

"Magical experience! Seeing Bora Bora in the distance with Taha'a below us… it's just a memory etched for life. An absolute must if you're passing through Raiatea or Taha'a."

🥉 Microlight Flight over Raiatea — The Sacred Island from the Air
Note: 20 minutes is a quick overview. If you're based in Raiatea, consider the Taha'a flight (35 min, 184€) instead — you'll see both islands since they share the same lagoon, and get more time in the air. The Raiatea flight remains the most affordable entry point to microlight flying in French Polynesia.
Raiatea, known as the sacred island, is the birthplace of Polynesian culture — it is from here that the great Polynesian navigators spread across the Pacific. From the air, its vast lagoon shared with Taha'a, its mountains covered with dense forest and the contrast with the turquoise blue waters is striking. The Blue Lagoon circuit (20 min, 117€) is the cheapest microlight flight in French Polynesia — an excellent entry point to discover microlight flying.
"The pilot was incredibly friendly and passionate. Amazing sensation in the microlight, very different from the helicopter. You really feel free up there."

Microlight Flight over Huahine — The Wild & Authentic Island from Above
Huahine and Maupiti are the two most authentic islands in the selection. You'll fly over entirely natural, wild landscapes — no overwater bungalow resorts, no tourist infrastructure visible from the air. The atmosphere is radically different from Bora Bora, and you'll likely be the only microlight in the sky.
Huahine is the least touristy of the Leeward Islands — and one of the most beautiful. Two main islands (Huahine Nui and Huahine Iti) linked by an isthmus, a deep blue lagoon, wild motus and forest-covered mountains. The 35-minute microlight flight covers the whole island, departing from Huahine airport.
From the air, you discover the reliefs that gave Huahine its nickname of the woman's island, its picturesque lagoonside villages, the ancient marae testifying to the island's sacred past, and its motus bordering the deep turquoise lagoon. The pilot shares knowledge about Huahine to make the flight as enriching as it is enjoyable. It's one of the most authentic experiences in French Polynesia — far from mass tourism, on an island still preserved.

Microlight Flight over Maupiti — Bora Bora's Wild Sister from Above
Maupiti is total authenticity. No large hotels, no tourist infrastructure — just raw nature, an intensely beautiful lagoon and deserted motus. The 30-minute flight puts you alone in front of the landscape. Important: a minimum of two consecutive flights must be booked to confirm a reservation at Maupiti.
Maupiti is often described as what Bora Bora looked like before the big hotels. Authentic, preserved, with a raw and stunning lagoon. The 30-minute microlight flight covers Mt. Teurafaatiu and the motus Auira, Tuanai, Pae'ao, Pitiahe and Tiapaa. Important: a minimum of two consecutive flights must be booked to confirm a reservation at Maupiti.
What makes the Maupiti microlight flight so special is the feeling of being alone in the world — suspended between sky and sea above an island that very few tourists visit. The contrast between the crystal-clear lagoon waters, the almost deserted motus and Mt. Teurafaatiu dominating the island is of a rare intensity. Maupiti retains its authenticity, and the aerial view lets you fully appreciate the preserved beauty of this extraordinary island.
Mt. Teurafaatiu dominates Maupiti — raw, preserved beauty far from mass tourism.
"Truly one of the most beautiful flights I've done! Maupiti is even more beautiful from the sky. You feel privileged to be there, and everything is of such beauty."
Practical tips for your microlight flight in French Polynesia
Microlight vs helicopter — what's the difference?
The helicopter offers an enclosed, air-conditioned cabin for 4-5 passengers. The microlight is two-seat (pilot + 1 passenger), with an open or semi-open cabin depending on the model — you feel the wind, the movement, the moment. It's more intimate, more sensory, closer to the pure sensation of flight. In return, it's more sensitive to weather conditions and less suitable if you have a fear of heights.
Which duration to choose?
The minimum recommended circuit in Bora Bora is the Lagoon Heart (45 min, 268€) — it includes Tupai, the heart-shaped island, which is the highlight of the flight. The Pacific Pearl (30 min, 200€) is good but a little short. If budget allows, the Lagoon Heart (45 min, 268€) remains our top recommendation — the perfect balance between duration, scenery and price.
Best time to fly
Flights are available year-round, but the dry season (April–October) offers the best conditions — stable wind, clear skies, exceptional morning light. During the rainy season (November–March), cancellations are possible depending on weather. Early morning is always the best time to fly — the air is calmer and the low light makes the lagoon stunning.
