Tiputa Pass in Rangiroa — one of the best drift dives in the world
The world's 2nd-largest lagoon. Tiputa Pass is legendary — dolphins, grey reef sharks, napoleon wrasse. The Blue Lagoon for snorkeling. The reference atoll of the Tuamotu.
The atoll with pink beaches and a uniquely pale-pink lagoon. Smaller and calmer than Rangiroa. Diving in Tuheiava Pass, exceptional snorkeling.
The most unusual atoll in the Tuamotu. Its lagoon is split into a maze of small turquoise basins by coral ridges — an otherworldly landscape. Very few visitors.
The pearl-farm atoll — mother-of-pearl as far as the eye can see underwater. Tairapa Pass with whitetip reef sharks and stingrays. A calm, authentic atmosphere.

Rangiroa or Tikehau depending on your priority: Rangiroa for pure diving and dolphins, Tikehau for a more intimate stay with its pink lagoon. Both are a direct 1-hour flight from Papeete.
Diving and snorkeling in the Tuamotu
The passes of the Tuamotu atolls rank among the best drift-diving spots in the world. The principle: the tide creates a current through the pass, and you let yourself be carried by it while observing the marine life — sharks, dolphins, turtles, rays.
The legendary passes
Tiputa Pass (Rangiroa) is the most famous — dolphins breed here and come to surf the pass's waves. Fakarava's North Pass is a designated UNESCO reserve, home to hundreds of grey reef sharks. Tikehau's Tuheiava Pass impresses with the sheer density of its fish.

All the major atolls are reachable by Air Tahiti flight from Papeete in around 1 hour. Flights are pricier than a short-haul European flight — book as early as possible, especially in high season.
